What is Counseling?

The term counseling can be both confusing and intimidating. Other terms used to describe counseling have been, therapy, mental health & even “seeing a shrink”. To me, counseling is simply another word for getting support and help in an area of your life that gets in the way of you living the life you desire.

Owner of Discovery & Wellness Counseling and primary clinician Heidi Brouelette MA. LPC. believes offering yourself the opportunity to grow and heal is one of the biggest gifts you can give to yourself.  Counseling to Heidi, is the opportunity to heal and make change, which is something you can always keep with you. The growth that can be experienced will inadvertently impact mutable facets in your life.

Tools used to impact affective change in our areas of specialization are important to us here at Discovery & Wellness. We value your time the financial investment you make when making the commitment to pursue counseling, which is why we utilize Evidenced Based Treatments (those proven to make sustainable change in the least amount of time). These include, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).  Each of these treatment models has been clinically proven to impact change when working with mood disorders (anxiety/depression), Couples Therapy and Family Relational Issues. Expressive Arts, Experiential Therapy and Post Induction Therapy (PIT), are additional clinical tools used in conjunction with the Evidenced Based Treatments.
